The frame of the MR920 has configurable ergonomics. Interchangeable backstraps allow shooters to adjust the grip angle to suit their natural point of aim. The extended beaver tail and aggressive trigger cut dramatically reduce recoil and increase controllability. The frame's wraparound texture is aggressive enough to keep the weapon firmly in the shooter's grip without being uncomfortable for everyday use.

The MR920 slider features a slim profile at the grips and serrations on the front and rear (as well as the top on some models) for easy handling under load.

The kitch grade barrel is conventionally rifled and spiral shaped to improve debris evacuation. The MR920s also come with threaded barrels for those departments that allow the use of muzzle devices.

The drop-resistant flat aluminum trigger has a trigger pull of 4.5-5.0 lbs and a sharp, tactile reset. Optic cutout models allow shooters to mount the red dot optic of their choice. The optical cutout of the MR920 can accommodate most major brands of RDS optics directly mounted on the slide, without intermediate plates or adapters. When Glock's patents for the Gen3 system expired, several companies (including Shadow Systems) began making complete guns based on this design.

Their goal was to take the Glock Gen3 design and improve upon it. Creating a pistol that is cross compatible with Glock parts while providing much more value than the factory.

For years, people have been making Glock pistol stocks and modifying them. Usually with lots of aftermarket parts, but Shadow Systems wanted to offer the complete package out of the box so the user doesn't have to buy anything from the aftermarket.

There are many details in the Shadow Systems MR920L that we will cover in this review. This sets it apart from the standard Gen3 Glock. We'll help you figure out if they're enough to make you want to buy the MR920L over any Glock factory firearm.

Shadow Systems' MR920 series is a Glock 19 size pistol. The pistol we are looking at in this article, the MR920L, has a 19 size frame with a 17 size slide.

Mr920 Glock

This is a format that people have been asking Glock to release for years. Glock has not used this concept except for the Border Patrol release of the Glock 47.

If you want something in this format, you'll either have to build it yourself using spare parts or buy the MR920L.

The shorter grip makes it a bit more concealable than a real 17 gauge pistol. The longer barrel does not create noticeable disadvantages.

If you carry this gun three to four hours in the belt (IWB), the extra barrel length doesn't matter. In theory, the barrel could stick out a bit further down and poke through your pants, but this isn't a typical problem for most people and body types.

If you carry this gun off the belt, the extra length can make a big difference. You want to make sure your shirt or jacket completely covers the bottom of the holster. A longer gun can make this more difficult.

If you're looking for a job-sized pistol, you can also opt for a true grip 17-gauge. With this you get the extra capacity that comes with a gun of this size.

In my opinion, the Shadow Systems MR920L is really set up for concealed carry. It is still a fatter pistol based on the Glock design. It won't be as thin or as long a gun as the Glock 48 or SIG P365 XL.

Because of this, you should understand that you have a bigger gun. This gives you some advantages. We'll cover them below in the Shadow Systems MR920 review.

The Shadow Systems MR920L comes from the factory with two Magpul PMAG magazines. I love Magpul products but I don't think they have done a good job with their Glock magazines.

I've had quite a few problems with them myself, even though they were the previous magazines I bought.

I shot a Glock Magpul in this review, but only had about 500 rounds through one of them. This is the same point where my old blades started to fail.

I haven't seen any signs of damage so far. Also, I haven't driven them hard enough to see if they fail later.

I wish they came with Glock mags, but I understand that Glock probably won't sell directly to a competitor. I can direct PMAG to training. I usually carry the pistol with a Glock OEM magazine that I know will be reliable.

The magazines they send are Glock 19 Magpul magazines. They hold 15 rounds, but you can also get 10-round versions if you live in a restricted state.

The great thing about taking Glock magazines is that you can use factory 24-, 33-, or 17-round magazines (or heck, even Glock drums) in the gun. It gives you many different capacity options.

So it doesn't help much when you're trying to put in a filler. It's easy enough with good technique, but it won't give you an advantage over most other guns like a stock Glock Gen 5.

One advantage of the Shadow Systems is that it comes with a polymer filler. It can be added to the gun and really fires it up. The downside to this is that it will also have a negative impact on cloaking. Gives a large grip width.

It works very effectively but I chose not to use it on my gun as I plan to use the MR920L for concealed carry

Instead, they tried to improve the ergonomics of the Gen 3 19 frame as a whole, resulting in the gun feeling only reminiscent of the base design.

The Shadow Systems MR920L uses a removable backstrap system that allows you to change the grip angle of the gun. They offer three different sizes so you can tailor the gun and grip angle to your specific shooting style.

This little lip allows you to put your puppy in there and get a little more leverage on the frame. Combined with the beaver tail and pistol grip, the lip forces your hand high into the pistol grip.

They also added a cutout under the trigger guard. This, combined with the other two features mentioned, really forces the hand to be high. This naturally allows you to get a good grip on the MR920L.

If you've shot Gen 3 Glocks before, you know that in their factory, untrimmed configuration, you really have to work hard to get that grip high on the gun.

As a result, you also get a "Glock knukle". (I'm not saying you won't get some anyway, but it will be a lot less, and like I said earlier, just get your hand very high on the gun.)

This gun has a small beaver tail. This will keep everyone from slide bites, which can be a problem for some Gen3 Glock users.

One thing I don't like about the beavertail is that if you grip your weapon by placing your thumb on the front sight before you pull, it's a little less comfortable.

It also creates a larger space where the web your hand has to travel. So you can probably increase the index you get as you grip your firearm.

If you don't put your thumb on the rear sight when drawing a firearm, that's actually a huge advantage and you'll really love the design.

Another interesting addition to the frame is the companion cutouts in front of the frame just behind the rail.

Shadow Systems Mr920

These cutouts allow you to position your thumb for leverage. When firing the firearm, create a small shelf that allows you to counteract the forces of recoil.

They are identical on both sides with texturing in that part of the gun. Personally, I don't use them when catching firearms, but they are there if you have the option. I see no real flaws with them.

It is aggressive enough that you can get a good grip on it. Although it's not so much that it's uncomfortable to wear.

Mr920 Glock

It has a slightly different texture. In terms of feel, the Shadow Systems module is almost identical.

Overall, the MR920L doesn't feel comfortable in the hand, but it does feel secure. I'll take safety over comfort any day when it comes to controlling the recoil of a firearm.

Ergonomically, it's great from a recording standpoint. If you are looking for a gun that just feels comfortable in your hand, then this is not for you. It forces your hand where it needs to be to grip the weapon properly.

Pliers work very well for checking firearm pressure. There are also two thunderbolt cuts directly in front of the ejection port.

They give a nice little aesthetic boost
